Drakes Bay Oysters Oyster Support Us and Our Cause

Drakes Bay Oyster Farm is gone. The retail operation and cannery were forced to shut down July 31, 2014. Harvesting was ended December 31, 2014. The Park Service has destroyed the historic buildings of the shore operation, and is planning the destruction of the underwater oyster racks in 2016.

The farm was a wonderful opportunity to learn about shellfish farming operations first-hand and purchase the best fresh oysters in California. Generations of visitors have fond memories of purchasing oysters to take home or to enjoy at the farm’s picnic tables overlooking beautiful Drakes Estero.

Some supporters still choose to display a Save Drakes Bay sign. Here’s one poster you can print.

It still makes sense to contact your elected officials and encourage Congress to look into the false science that was used to evaluate the environmental impacts of shellfish cultivation in Drakes Estero. Click here for contact information.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2015, Kevin Lunny was invited to testify to the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, a new subcommittee of the Committee on Natural Resources. The hearing was entitled “Zero Accountability: The Consequences of Politically Driven Science.” The subcommittee’s press release, which includes portions of Kevin Lunny’s testimony, is here.
